I'm Listening

I came across some great new sewing blogs and websites and was looking at them when my youngest comes and sits next to me to talk about "fish" and science.  So I'm looking at designs on a site as she's talking and she says "Mom".  I said "I'm listening!" She gives me one of those looks and finds this video to show me...

The video is from Studio C which I loathe and she loves.

We finally got our tree up...

... last week.  It isn't straight, but who cares, it's up :).  Two days later we put the star on, hehe.  I was looking at the tree and thinking how pretty it was this year even though it was just kind of thrown up here and there when I decided to take the picture, so you get an imperfect house picture in the process.

We watch all versions of "A Christmas Carol" each year, along with "It's A Wonderful Life".

(the Alastair Sim's version of "A Christmas Carol" is the best)
At our Angier ASG Sew Inspired meeting we made fabric tree stars taught by Ann Burgin.

Fabric was adhered to poster board using double sided fusible web.

12 - 1/4" strips where cut for the stips.  6 strips are woven as below.  You do this again for the back of the star.

It's hard to tell in this picture, however you have the two woven strips set together (offset 45 degrees).

In this picture you can see the layers better.  The top middle piece is the top layer and the two pieces on either side of it are the bottom layer.  These will be folded around the top center piece.

Here you see the finished fabric star and one woven from 1/4' basket reed.  Two more strips were added for this one.

While the kids grandmother was down we went to the famous "Southern Supreme" Fruitcake Factory in Bear Creek, NC.  I was never a fruitcake person and only knew that you give them to people you don't like!  Well I found out that's the Walmart version and that some people really do like fruitcakes, lol.

Family Fun

I don't blog as much as I'd like to.  Life moves so quickly and sometimes you forget to "say cheese" and snap a photo.

Taylor just got back from the UP (that's Upper Peninsula of Michigan for those not familiar with it).  She did take some photo's thankfully so I'll share a few...

They went from Mackinac Island across the UP all the way to Iron Mountain.  Well I should say they started from Southern Part of Michigan where Tay's grandmother lives.  Taylor flew into Flint and they drove to the UP.

They went for a walk in the woods and it ended here...

Mom on one side...                                                             Tay on the other :)

This is a different location than above but I can't remember where.

After a few days rest they drove to Tennessee where her cousin lives and stayed a couple of days before returning home.

I thought Greg's Mom would be too tired to do much while she was here, however we did find some antique stores in Dunn to visit as well as a new Organic Butcher Shop.  We loved the place and they had great prices.  The next day we went back to visit a unique little shop we missed then headed to Southern Pines for some cheeses at Southern Whey.

Some moments aren't picture moments and
you can't always capture the moments that capture you.
